Book review: "The American Patriot's Almanac"

When I saw up for review the book, "The American Patriot's Almanac" at Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program, I immediately requested it. I was I was extremely excited to receive a copy of this wonderful book! I was ancipating this book so much that before it shipped to me, I went on Amazon and downloaded a sample of it to read on my Kindle and devoured it. The pages are roughed up/shredded type pages, (which I adore) , it has blue binding on the side and it's 561 pages. Huge. :) The book is meant to be read everyday but you can also read straight through if one desires. Let's take January 1st for instance, it will have a story as to what happened on that very day and then at the bottom of it, there will be an area called: 'American History Parade' where on this day, January 1st, it will list what else happened on this day in other years. Amazing. There's so much more also such as "The Bill of Rights", pictures and info about every state. The stories in this book are part of what Abraham Lincoln called the "mystic chords of memory". "The American Patriot's Almanac" is a daily source of inspiration and information about the history, heroes, and achievements that sum up what this nation is all about. I highly recommend this book to the people of the United States. This book remains next to my Bible.

Book Review: God's Promises For Women of Faith

As a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program , I had the opportunity to review, 'God's Promises For Women of Faith'. It has a beautiful cover and a lovely ribbon on the side. This book is perfect for your daily Bible reading! These Scriptures will prove to help women walk in His Word, comfort them, encourage and so much more! There's a section for 'Dynamic Women of Faith' which includes: Mary (Mother of Jesus), Elizabeth (Mother of John the Baptist), Sarah (Wife of Abraham, Hannah (Mother of Samuel), Ruth (Great Grandmother of David) and Lydia (Seller of Purple). I was imo surprised to see Lydia there and not Esther. To me, Esther definitely should've been listed as a 'Dynamic Woman of Faith'. There's a section at the end of the book where you can write down the verses that are special to you and God's Plan of Salvation is there as well. This book is small enough to put in your handbag and off you go. Great for on the go and when things come up, you can just pull it right out and read the Scriptures that pertain to your situation. So, overall this book is handy and I love it!

Book Review: LOL with God: Devotional Messages of Hope & Humor for Women

I had the chance to review this devotional book for women, LOL with God: Devotional Messages of Hope & Humor for Women. It's a light-hearted book for one to enjoy if you need a good laugh and just to feel revived and refreshed. I did feel that even though I text here and there, I am not into all of the lingo that's currently out there. To me, it is a little irritating. LOL

There are a collection of personal stories in this book and text message Bible verses throughout to encourage women in their walk with the Lord. You can 'send up a msg to the Lord, there are 'text helps', an LOL area and a place to write your text msg to God about your life, what you read, or a request that's on your heart.

This book is not my personal fav for devotions for women. They aren't deep and serious really and I do like most of my devotions being that way for the most part.
Disclaimer: Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.

Book review: The Heavens Proclaim His Glory

I am a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program and had the opportunity to review the book, 'The Heavens Proclaim His Glory~A spectacular view of creation through the lens of the Hubble Telescope'. I couldn't wait to receive this book and review it! Our world displays God's work--by land, sea, animals and plants. In the sky, heavens and universe, you'll be able to see our Father's amazing creation! The pictures are astounding via the Hubble Telescope. You'll witness the Magnificient Beauty of our world! Once you see these pictures, you realize how small you are in the vast scheme of His power and might.

There are Scriptures and quotes by Joni Eareckson Tada, Max Lucado and many others weaved throughout this beautiful book! Here are just a few quotes that I meditated upon:

"We know about beauty because God, the Ultimate First Cause of Everything, is also beautiful...to the humble and worshipful of heart...every tiny piece of creation reminds them of the magnificent Genius who fashioned it all. No item of creation, be it ever so beautiful, can convey the infinite beauty of the Source." ~Kevin Hartnett.

"You need a Yahweh. You need a God who can place 100 billion stars in our galaxy and 100 billion galaxies in the universe. You need a God who can shape two fists of flesh into 75-100 billion nerve cells, each with as many as 10,000 connections to other nerve cells, place it in a skull, and call it a brain. You need a God who can come in the soft of night and touch you with the tenderness of April snow. You need a Yahweh."~ Max Lucado

I really recommend this book and you'll fall in love all over again with the Creator, Father of our universe. Enjoy and be blessed!!

Book Review: The One Year Bible For Women NLT

'The One Year Bible for women' is a paperback in the New Living Translation. It's one of my favorite translations to read from. The One Year Bible consists of ways we can use this by: one two or even three year plans as well as reading through the Psalms and Proverbs, taking you through them twice during the year.

There are highlighted Scriptures to help you focus on a key thought in each day's reading. Also, there are quotes weaved throughout, here and there. I love quotes! One of my fav ones has been a fav of mine for a long time now and it's in here! :) It's says: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." Hellen Keller

Now, there aren't maps in this Bible. I was hoping to find some in here but there aren't any. Also, there weren't that many devotionals either, very few if you can find them!

I do recommend this Bible for encouragement, inspiration and to help boost your faith in God's holy Word.

Book review: 'How To Reach Your Full Potential For God'

I am a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program and had the chance to review a book by Charles Stanley'S new book titled: 'How To Reach Your Full Potential For God'. I've listened to Dr. Charles Stanley preach for quite some time now...13+ years and I never tire of listening to him. I have enjoyed his approach as a Pastor to believers so when I saw that this book was available to request for review, I immediately knew I had to read it.
It doesn't matter what one has done in their past. It doesn't dictate what God can do in your life now and in the future. You can see what God had done in the lives of both Moses & Paul. He transformed their lives and they eventually became successful followers of God. God values us beyond anything he has created. We're worth more than anything in His creation. He's placed in us the capacity to know Him, love Him, serve Him, and live forever with Him. We have to look through His eyes, not our own eyes. If we look through His eyes, we can see the potential that we have in Him to serve others. God has more for you. More ways for you to feel joy, experience His peace, encounter His beauty and more expressions of His love to shower upon you. God is weaving together who He made us to be with those things He has prepared you & I to do and experience. We deserve God's best and nothing less!! I highly recommend this book by Dr. Charles Stanley. (ISBN: 140020092X)

Blog Against Bullying

I can remember when I was in 5th grade when some bullying was happening to me by what these days we would call the 'mean girls'. They were the popular ones and I just me, not part of that group. I remember wanting to be 'in' with them but I never was. There was one of the popular girls, my height (petite) who was pretty but she was also a bully. I wanted to be her friend but she definitely didn't treat me nice. I felt like I could be harmed if I said something wrong, said nothing at all or told on them for talking when I was in charge of the class. I remember eventually telling my parents and teacher about what was going on and how I was being treated.

Children need to tell their parents and teachers what's going on in their lives. They don't need to keep this inside of them. They need an outlet to speak to people they can trust. There's a world out there of bullying going on and it's resulting in children taking their own lives. Maybe we can save the life of at least one child that's hurting and make a huge difference!

Sweet & Salty review & giveaway

I love it when MyBlogSpark contacts me to participate in a "spark! I get so excited! :) This spark is for a "Sweet & Salty" Prize Pack.

Does the man in your life have a sweet tooth, enjoy salty snacks, or maybe indulge in a bit of both from time to time? General Mills would love for the special guy in your life to try three new General Mills products to satisfy those sweet and salty cravings!

Cocoa Puffs Treats Triple Chocolate: An indulgent cereal bar that combines the great taste of Cocoa Puffs cereal and chocolate into one decadent treat, Cocoa Puffs Treats Triple Chocolate is perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth.

Bugles Hot Buffalo: Need something salty with a bit of a kick? Look no further than Bugles Hot Buffalo Crisp Corn Snacks, which blends the taste of hot buffalo sauce with crispy corn Bugles.

Nature Valley Oats `N Dark Chocolate Crunchy Granola Bars: If you want the best of both worlds, give Nature Valley Oats `N Dark Chocolate Crunchy Granola Bars a try. These bars mix dark chocolate pieces, oats and crisp rice nuggets for a classic crunch and burst of whole grain goodness, making them a perfect natural snack that's high in fiber and protein, but low in saturated fat.

I managed to try the Cocoa Triple Chocolate Treats and they were yummilicious! I liked that the bars were soft, chewy and that there was chocolate involved! A triple threat! :) The Granola Bars by Nature Valley were pretty good though. I do actually prefer their 'Honey & Oats' Granola Bars to these. The Bugles were the only snack that I didn't try only because it would set off my Rosacea for sure!! LOL I'm giving those to my Brother so he can try them! You can find all of these snacks in convenience stores.

Win it! MyBlogSpark would love to gift (1) of my Reader's a "Sweet and Salty" prize pack just like the one that I received which includes: a Nature Valley coffee travel mug, a Bugles t-shirt, as well as two samples of each snack, one for you and one for someone special!

Review: Ryken's Bible handbook

I signed up to review books for Tyndale House Publishers and the first book that I chose to review was 'Ryken's Bible handbook'. This book is a wonderful guide to reading and studying the Bible. There's a fact sheet for every book of the Bible, outlines, overviews, key verses, a 'did you know'? area and perspectives of each book of the Bible with quotes. Also, there's a one year Bible reading plan, an index of articles and maps as well. This Bible handbook is loaded and I love it! Leland Ryken's distinctive trait is a literary approach to the Bible—understanding the Bible as literature. The three authors help shed light on understanding the Bible as the inspired Word of God and as literature by looking at the Bible's different literary genres: poetry, narrative, wisdom literature, story, parables, and more. I enjoy having Ryken's Bible handbook nearby me when I'm reading the Bible for that little extra insight into the Word! This should be in every Bible student's library as a tool in accordance with the Bible.

Mmm chocolate! Horizon Organic lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3 provides a great tasting and easy way to add calcium and DHA to your family’s diet. DHA Omega-3 is an important nutrient that helps support heart, brain and eye health, and it’s available in lowfat half gallons.

DHA belongs to a category of healthy fatty acids known as Omega-3's. Found in high concentrations in the tissues of the brain and eye, DHA Omega-3 is thought to help support healthy function in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help support heart health.

• DHA provides a nutritional boost for children's growing minds and bodies. Children's brains grow incredibly fast. In fact, the brain nearly quadruples in the first five years of life.

• DHA is a key structural component of the brain, yet many young children don't get their recommended daily amount of DHA as it is found in a limited number of food sources.

Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA Omega-3 is fortified with a natural, 100 percent vegetarian and sustainable source of DHA - a safe, wholesome, delicious way to bring more of this important nutrient into your family's diet. Visit http://www.horizonorganicdha.com/ to learn more!

Review: Cook's Ham

I had the wonderful opportunity to review some products from Cook's Ham. They sent me a Brown Sugar Spiral Half Ham, a Honey Quartered Spiral Ham, a Ham Steak, and a Butt Portion! My family and I usually have Turkey on Holidays but for this Christmas, courtesy of Cook's Ham, we tried the Brown Sugar Spiral Half Ham! It's our favorite!! The hams were very tender, not salty, juicy and the flavor was wonderful! We loved that with the Brown Sugar Ham, came a nice liquid Brown Sugar glaze sauce. I loved that a couple of the Hams were already pre-sliced for us! All of the Hams except for the Ham Steak were wrapped in some pretty, colorful foil. On their site, you can check out Ham TV and find some great tips and recipes in audio and video format. I highly recommend Cook's Ham to anyone! Thanks Cook's Ham!

Book Review by Max Lucado: Fearless

I'm a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program and had the opportunity to review Max Lucado's new book, 'Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear'.

We all battle our fears! LORD knows I have my share. Fear will always be knocking on our door, we just don't invite it in. We can fear less tomorrow than we do today. Max Lucado helps us to face our fears and there are those that are born out of legitimate concerns. Fear itself is not a sin. But it can lead to sin. Fear can keep us from accomplishing God's Will in our lives. Fear may fill our world, but it doesn't have to fill our hearts. With Christ, we don't need to live in constant fear of anyone or anything. There are Scriptures throughout the book for combating our fears. Max Lucado tells some wonderful stories in this book. He's a great Storyteller! I enjoyed this book and will definitely read it again. There is a discussion guide in the back of this book that can be used by individuals or groups. Each lesson consists of three parts for each chapter: Examining Fear, Exposing Fear and Battling Fear.

*I received a copy of this book to read for my agreement to review the book here on my blog. I did not receive any compensation for my review.*

Book Review: Voices of the Faithful Book 2

I'm a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program and had the wonderful opportunity to review: 'Voices of the Faithful Book 2.' I'm a huge 'fan' of Missionaries and their life stories that they present. These are inspiring stories of courageous Christians serving all around the world. I haven't read book 1 yet but in the future I hope to do so. I was really interested in reviewing this book as I thought it would be like my Jesus Freak/DC Talk books and it's very similar to those.

In 'Voices of the Faithful Book 2', each day you'll see a verse from the Bible, the Missionary's story and a brief prayer. Over 300 missionaries wrote these daily devotions. Beth Moore had a vision of the series and for writing the introduction. I don't recommend reading straight through but rather just taking each day as it comes and allow time to reflect daily on each devotion. What I long for after having read each devotion, is that I look forward to what the next day will bring. You will see the LORD's hand in every story presented and your heart will be gripped with a love for the lost. Start the year off by reading this devotional book in combination with your Bible! I really look forward to hopefully more books in this series. I highly recommend this book to anyone to is desiring an intimate relationship with the LORD!
