Book review: Redeemed

So, I was excited to be contacted by First Look and I said 'yes' to review the book, Redeemed by Big Daddy Weave songwriter, Mike Weaver! The 208-page devotional book is centered on Big Daddy Weave’s single, “Redeemed,” which spent multiple weeks at #1 on national Christian radio charts. Throughout the collection of 30 devotions in the book, Weaver focuses on redemption, grace, and the healing power of Christ’s love. This book would be a nice addition to regular Bible reading. It has 30 chapters, you read a chapter a day. Within each chapter, it contains Scripture, quotes, a timely tip, prayer for today and a place where you can jot down your own thoughts about whatever the chapter is about. Here are some of the promises from God in Scripture and quotes from the book.
"Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life--even though invisible to spectators--is with Christ in God. He is your life." Colossians 3:3 (MSG)
"Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. ~Isaiah 43:18-19 (HCSB)
"If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong." ~1 John 1:9 (NLT)
"Do not have other gods besides Me." ~Exodus 20:3 (HCSB)
"It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth....Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." ~Acts 4:10, 12 (NIV)

"If you are God's child, you are no longer bound to your past or to what you were. You are a brand new creature in Christ Jesus." ~ Kay Arthur
"We can have full confidence in God's promises because we can have full faith in His character." ~Franklin Graham
"A tear drop on earth summons the King of Heaven." ~ Chuck Swindoll
"Like a spring of pure water, God's peace in our hearts brings cleansing and refreshment to our minds and bodies. ~ Billy Graham
"Claim all of God's promises in the Bible. Your sins, your worries, your life--you may cast them all on Him." ~Corrie Ten Boom

I like this devotional book and it's small enough to tuck away in your handbag or tote! I recommend it. Lastly, here is the song, 'Redeemed', take a listen!

Official Launch: Be You -- Four Week Mini Bible Study by Heather Bixler

be_you_2_250If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 2 Corinthians 3:9 (NLT)

What would it look like for you to be bold, transparent, free, and truly the person God created you to be? What would it look like for you to BE YOU?

In this four week mini Bible Study journey with author Heather Bixler as she shares some of her personal struggles with you in an effort to be transparent with you, the reader.

God wants us to shine and radiate His glory, but truly this can only be done through our brokenness. God is looking for transparent women to help guide others to a true and intimate relationship with Jesus through the sharing of their own brokenness, and compassion for one another.

If we are truly going to shine for HIS glory in the new ministry of HIS righteousness then we must learn the art of being who God created us to be. We often think this is found through performance and behavior changes, but when we have given our life over to Jesus then everything God created us to be is found in the Holy Spirit that is already living within us.

Come and unwrap the beauty that is already within through the four week mini Bible Study, Be You!

Book review: Hank Hanegraaff : "Has God Spoken?"

I already own several books by Hank Hanegraaff and was anxious to read this one. This book is nearly 400 pages long with the last 100 pages or so filled with Notes, Bibliography and a Subject Index. Has God Spoken? demonstrates that God has indeed spoken. We CAN trust the Bible, it's trustworthy, true and transformational to our lives. He uses manuscript evidence, archeology, predictive prophecy, and much more to memorably demonstrate that the Bible is divine rather than merely human in origin.

Hank uses acronyms a lot and I found that a lot of the words he says are hard to understand for the average mind. You'll need a dictionary to look up words almost immediately. It's a struggle to get through a lot of this book I'll be honest. It's nice for a reference but I'm not going through all of this reading it again. It's difficult and it's time consuming to look up the words. Your average person doesn't talk like this and most likely doesn't know anywhere near what he's saying. You need a lot of spare time to get through it. I don't recommend this book because it's just too much to consume and take in.
